Chapter1 covers the formative years of Dansaekhwa between the early 1960s to mid 1970s, which saw the emergence of its performative methodology-namely,"communion between humans and materials"-along with the first critical discussions of the style. Then in Chapter2 covers the period between the mid-1970s and the mid-1980s, when Dansekhwa began to flourish. Texts by important artists like Lee Ufan, Park Seo-Bo, Chung Sang-Hwa, Ha Chong Hyun, Yun Hyong-keun, Kwon Yong-woo, Kim Guiline, Suh Seung-Won, and Choi Myong Yong demonstrate the lively discussions on the aesthetics of Dansaekhwa that took place at the time. Chapter 3 is concerned with the maturation phase of Dansaekhwa, between the mid-1980s and 1999, when Dansaekhwa artists held a large number of exhibitions, advanced their respective methodologies, and explored diverse media. Chapter 4 deals with the 2000s, exploring theheightened interest and favorable reception of Dansaekhwa within both the international and domestic art communities. |
