The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), and the SBS Foundation co-present the exhibition 10-year path of Korea Artist Prize from 28 October 2022 to 26 March 2023 at MMCA Seoul.
The Artist of the Year exhibitions held by the MMCA between 1995 and 2010 developed into the award program Korea Artist Prize in 2012 with the SBS Culture Foundation’s agreement to provide a long-term sponsorship. A total of 10 Korea Artist Prize exhibitions were held until 2021, through which 40 artists received the attention of the public and the art world as “Korea Artist Prize-sponsored artists.”
This year, in commemoration of the program’s 10th anniversary, the MMCA seeks to examine the impact Korea Artist Prize had on Korean society and its art scene along with its significance and achievements. Through an archive of videos that faithfully document the past Korea Artist Prize exhibitions, this exhibition addresses the gap and intersection between contemporary art and the public perception of it in search of the existential meaning of contemporary art and exhibitions within the context of today’s society.
