Lehmann Maupin Seoul presents Three Generations: Remembering Suh Se Ok (1929-2020), an exhibition in memory of renowned KoreanArtist Suh SeOk (1929-2020). The exhibition includes works made in response to the artist by three generations of the Suh family.

Suh SeOk is an artist who opened a new horizon for contemporary Korean painting through Ink-and-wash abstraction and is said to have pioneered contemporary oriental painting based on abstraction and simplicity. It also contributed to the establishment of the avant-garde movement, which was radically rooted in Korean traditions and philosophy.

The exhibition features a series of dynamic drawings, paintings and wall hangings by the artist’s family. Reflecting on the expansive creative space that Suh Seok, along with his wife Minza Chung, created for their sons, artist Doho Suh and architect Eulho Suh, a number of films and sculpture works reveal the far-reaching impact of the artist’s handling of themes including language, parenthood and the role of the artist. The exhibition runs from December 23, 2022, to January 20, 2023.
