The mirror series works by Park Gwang Sun shows the actuality of the world through an aesthetic experience that brings about an unexpected rupture. The encounter with many others presented by the artist surprises the viewer with a strange gaze. The sense of deprivation, unfamiliarity, and anxiety experience in this process is an aesthetic device meant to shake up a certain center in one’s inner world and rupture a sense of identity. Here, the logic of imitation is denied. Not only that, the representation of a smooth surface such as that of a mirror is unnecessary. It also eliminates an attempt to convey a certain message of an appeal. The artist takes no rest in carrying out a method to get away from signification through the visual language, ‘exploring his own way for presenting the gap of the phenomenon which is in movement every moment (Jean-Luc Nancy)’.
