Artist

Jongwan Jang

Born in Busan 1983, and majored in painting. He has been based in Seoul since graduation, working on various projects. Although painting is his main medium, he continues to combine painting with other mediums and unfamiliar objects. He collects images of nature from various sources, and through a process of recombination and personification, creates surreal landscapes and events, and reworks them in different ways. Through his work, he challenges the ordinary understanding of beauty as well as social norms, and seeks to deal with the anxieties and absurdities of the society that one confronts in a comedic and metaphoric way.
