Born in 1969 in the township of Bongpyeong in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, Peik graduated from Hongik University with a bachelor’s in painting; he later attended Kunstakademie Musnter (Academy of Fine Arts Münster) in Germany and earned a master’s in media arts. After completing the meisterschuler program of professor Andreas Kopnick in 2002, Paik returned to Korea and participated as a video artist in the Gwangju Biennale (2004, 2008), Anyang Public Art Project (2005) and Geumgang Nature Art Biennale (2004). As a director at Ui Jae Art Studio in Gwangju in 2006, Peik launched Community Space Litmus in 2007 in Ansan and served as its director. He led the opening of Gyeonggi Creation Center in 2009 while working at the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art as head curator. Peik went on to work as chief curator of the museum’s arts support team (2014) and manager of the northern Gyeonggi branch of Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation (2015). Since November 2015, he has been director of the curatorial research department at Seoul Museum of Art.
