Chung earned a bachelor’s in French literature and a master’s in visual design from Ewha Womans University in Seoul. In 2007, she received the KIAFA Special Award at Indie-Anifest for her work What This Naughty Boy Has to Say, along with several other prestigious awards from both national and international movie festivals. She earned the Special Jury Award from the Hida International Animation Festival of Folktales and Fables in Japan, which helped launch her career as an animation director. Later in 2008, Chung moved to France to study at the European School of Visual Art in Angoulême. She has since traveled in France and Korea to show her works at group exhibitions, receiving numerous residencies. She also held the solo exhibition Honest Man in 2011 and 2012 in both countries.
