Cha earned her bachelor’s and master’s in fiber art at Hongik University and another master’s in painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her honors received include the grand prize at the 23rd JoongAng Fine Arts Competition in 2001, a nomination for the KEPCO Award from KEPCO Art Center as an up-and-coming artist in 2010, and the Seoul Olympic Museum of Art (SOMA) Drawing Center Award in 2011. Since 2004, Cha has held solo exhibitions such as Be Still, and Know… in 2011, Between and Beyond in 2012, and Agnes and Seunghwans in 2014, along with a few group exhibitions. She has had residencies at Women’s Studio Workshop in New York and SeMa Nanji Residency and Gyeonggi Creation Center in Korea, and received a grant for new work from Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation in 2013 and one for a solo exhibition from the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture in 2014.
