Soohyeok Shin makes structural planes. They seem to be planes, but are abstract spaces with many layers inside. He designs and executes his works as if he constructed a neutral space on the plane, containing moments and momentary movements. His strokes build a structure crossing vertical and horizontal lines repeatedly with slender brush, like the pattern of tartan. The short, rhythmical strokes repeat infinitely and create a plane without distance or gradation. The sensitivity of the artist is present in the strokes, on the plane. Crossing the blue and white paints, the materials are compressed into “the irreplaceable structural plane." In this way, he always discovers something new from repetition.
