COSMOPOLIS #1 : COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE

18 Oct 2017 - 18 Dec 2017

Venue: Centre Pompidou, GALLERY 3, LEVEL 1

The Centre Pompidou is presenting the first edition of Cosmopolis: a new type of event dedicated to artistic practices that combine research and expertise-sharing. This platform, consisting of exhibitions, talks, performances and conversations, puts the spotlight on these new practices and creates conditions for exploring the social, urban and political questions they raise. Cosmopolis gives visibility to the various places where contemporary art flourishes, and to approaches and experiments concerning cultural translation, rooted in a local context but also part of an international network.

The topic of cosmopolitanism is central to the platform, delineating the figure of the artist as navigator, intercessor and activist. In a context of ever-swifter mobility, migrations and cultural contacts, these citizen artists experiment with modes of commitment and open up areas in the transcultural imagination. This first edition, entitled "Collective Intelligence", is devoted to artists' collectives, whose forms and projects have increased considerably during the last decade, particularly in the art scenes of Africa, Latin America and Asia.
