COUNTERTIME

12 Oct 2017 - 12 Nov 2017

Venue: Platform-L Contemporary Art Center Gallery

The exhibition, Countertime focuses on the temporal dimension activated at the time of an exhibition of an art collection. The concept of time during the exhibition involves an absolute linear programming. The time required for the ecosystem to survive itself is irreversible as in the law of entropy. Just as time is structured for the management of labor and capital, the time immanent in the artistic world and the life of an artist is administered by the institutional system of museums and effectively managed by the art market. An exhibition record itself becomes a biography of an artist and his work history becomes identical to the list of works exhibited and the biography of the museum. The exhibition narrative often ignores the history and the context of artistic developments and underscores just the current value of the exhibited artwork.

Countertime intends an exhibition that symbolically gave collected art works back to the artists and let them reclaim their own work. The premise of artist-led interpretation for the exhibition is either to rewind the linear time line in a closed circuit or to be freed from it to let the time “play” outside the circuit.
